Liverpool is a hub for students from all parts of the UK and around the world so I enjoy learning about different cultures whilst learning from lecturers who are at the peak of their careers and research.
Ching Chen, from Malaysia
The University of Liverpool is one of a kind.
The story began in 1881 as the original ‘redbrick’ university and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group.
Liverpool enjoys many longstanding links with Malaysia. The announcement on Malaysia’s independence was actually first made in Liverpool in 1956 by the Federation of Malaya Chief Minister Tanuk Abdul, who was visiting a unique Malayan Teacher Training College (MTTC) in the city. The College, based in Liverpool from 1952-1962, trained over 1,300 Malay teachers.
Liverpool has always been a popular choice for Malaysian students. There are over 3,100 alumni in Malaysia and a proactive University of Malaysian Alumni Association (ULMMA), who hold regular events and support young alumni and students. There is also an active Malaysian community in Liverpool which includes the Malay Speaking Circle (MSC) and many of Liverpool's current students are members.
Additionally, Liverpool has a number of key partnerships with educational institutions in Malaysia, including Brickfields Asia College, Advance Tertiary College (ATC), Taylors University, and Help University.
