For most courses, Northumbria University accepts the following as evidence of English Language from students in Nigeria:

- WAEC – C6 typically required for most courses*

- NECO – C6 typically required for most courses*

Northumbria do not accept studying in English Medium as evidence of English Language. Students are required to evidence with an approved test such as WAEC or NECO or any other university approved test. IDP's Counsellors will be able to provide additional guidance on Northumbria's full list of approved tests.

*Please note that these tests may not be acceptable for certain Professional or Pre Registration Health Courses. Other courses may have different grading requirements.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, you must: - Be an International student with ‘Overseas’ fee status - Be domiciled in Nigeria - Be a self-funded student (not in receipt of any sponsorship) - Be accepted and enrolled on a full-time Postgraduate Taught course at the Newcastle upon Tyne campus, starting in January 2027 (**see exempt courses below) - Meet all individual course requirements

Important Information

- Students on an Advanced Practice or Study Abroad Masters who transfer to the non-Advanced Practice or non-study Abroad route more than four weeks after the start of their course, will not be eligible for the International Scholarship. - This scholarship is for new students only. If you are a graduate of Northumbria University and are eligible for the Alumni Discount, you will be awarded the scholarship of highest value. - Sponsored students are not eligible for the International Scholarship. - Students who are progressing from a partner institute where reduced fees and bespoke offers have been agreed, are not eligible for the International Scholarship. - Students studying on an Integrated Masters course are not eligible for the International Scholarship in their final year. - The International Scholarship is awarded as a fee discount and is not a cash sum. - If you defer your place, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn. - The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal.

To be eligible for the Early Payment Discount, you must: - Be an International student with ‘Overseas’ fee status - Have paid your deposit by 30 October 2026 for January 2027 entry - Be a self-funded student (not in receipt of any sponsorship) - Be accepted and enrolled on a Full-Time Postgraduate Taught course at the Newcastle upon Tyne campus - Meet all individual course requirements

Important Information

- The Early Payment Discount is applied automatically as a fee discount and will be added to student records following enrolment, you do not need to make a separate application. - The EPD is for new students joining in January 2027 only. Continuing students are not eligible. - Students who have deferred and paid their deposit prior to deferral are not eligible for the EPD. - Any student who has transferred fees by the above dates which has not yet been credited to Northumbria will also receive the discount (proof will be required that funds were transferred before deadline date). - Students who enrol on courses that are not eligible for International Country Scholarships are eligible for the EPD, including Advanced Practice courses. - The EPD is awarded in addition to the PGT Country Scholarships and Alumni Discount. - The EPD is not available to students on Study Abroad. - Students who study via Distance Learning are not eligible for the EPD. - Students who have already paid full or 50% fees are also eligible for the Early Payment Discount. - Students who wish to pay additional funds to ensure they pay 50% or full fees by the deadlines are also eligible. - Northumbria reserves the right to withdraw the scheme at any point. - Northumbria's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal.

With the 2026/27 Early Payment Discount, new international students starting a postgraduate taught programme in January 2027 can receive a £500 tuition fee discount, by paying their deposit by 30 October 2026.

This discount means students from Nigeria could qualify for a total tuition fee discount of £6,500 when combined with the 2026-27 PGT International Scholarship for Nigerian Applicants.
